Ma'akua Gulch
My day began with a peak out the front door - a.k.a. the weather report - seeing mostly clear skies with some fluffy clouds over the Ko'olaus. It looked like a good day to tramp up a creek bed, so I loaded up with rain gear (just in case) & headed to an area near Hauula. I had no trouble finding the trail or parking, was a little sketch though. I began my hike winding up a wide creek bed, crossing the stream itself many times & quickly became soaked. less than 20 minutes in, this was to my left, leaving me in awe:
The 2nd of many falls
It was amazing how clear the water was as it poured off the plants and mountain.
It seems near impossible to try & capture the lushness of the green walls here.
This felt like a true "Land of The Lost" journey, rock hopping, slipping, splashing & smiling at the beauty surrounding me
Easily 350'+ of falls right there...
Time seemed to slow down as the canyon began to tighten up, but I pressed on just a bit more...
The turnaround point - there are some bigger falls beyond this but the rain was picking up &
the water level began to rise, so I high tailed it back downstream
And booked it back in this
Giant Kalo added to the Jurassic feel...
The trail was now a river...
The stream began to flow a bit stronger
It started to get challenging to make all the water crossings at this point. Started to think this might have been a bad idea, but I knew I was close to the exit.
Drive-by of the plethora of incising falls
View from the Pali on the ride back.
All in all, one of the best wet hikes I've done ever.
I will definitely remember this day for a long time
